This Week at Jubilee- 2/27/17

Dear Jubilee,

We are grateful that Emily Key shared her moving testimony with us on SundayEmily’s message of pain and hope reminded us to wait in the difficult times.  I was especially encouraged that Emily discovered profound peace when she had a relationship with God.

Today Jubilee shared over a ton of God’s Groceries with 99 households.  What a joyful, capable and loving group of volunteers gathered to pray and serve today.

Mom’s Group is thriving.  This morning the happy sounds of children playing in the gym reached all the way to the foyer.  Mom’s Group meets every Tuesday morning.  If you know someone who would benefit, talk to Beth Graybill.

Tomorrow evening at 6:30pm join us in the Sojourners Room for the Ash Wednesday Service.  This simple service will remind us of our humility and need for God’s forgiveness.  The service will include prayers, songs, scriptures and the imposition of ashes, which means placing ashes in the shape of a cross on the forehead.

On Friday morning Jubilee men are invited to Prayer Breakfast at 6:15am at Queen City Truck Stop.

Pine Lake will be bustling all day Saturday.  Join the fun at Work Day!  The day begins at 8:30.  There will be projects for every skill level.  Lunch will be provided at 1:00.  Talk to Lindsay Diener or Matt Graybill for more details.

All Youth are invited to the Youth Game Night on Saturday evening at 7:00.  Joel Diener has those details.

I hope you can join us for Worship on Sunday.  This Sunday you can expect to experience God and:

    – Anita Wansley preaching from Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-7 & Matthew 4:1-11
– Celebrating the Lord’s Supper
Welcome! Class beginning during Sunday School
– Worship Planning Team meeting at 1:30

Tonight I pray for the many of us who are sick or in pain.  And I give thanks to be part of a church that tries to do as Jesus taught, to love our neighbors.

In hope,

This Week at Jubilee (2/13/17)

On Sunday Pastor Duane preached from I Corinthians 3 reminding us that while it is appropriate for babies to drink milk, we expect five-year-olds to be ready to eat meat.  Paul encouraged the Corinthian church to stop squabbling over who to follow and grow up.
We were also blessed on Sunday evening that the Youth Band led us in worship during Second Sunday Sing.

Wednesday: Tomorrow we gather in the Sojourners Room for the mid-year Congregational Meeting at 6:30pm.  You don’t need to be a member to vote at these meetings.  This is a great time to learn more about Jubilee.  Reports will include the trustees’ care for the facility and Jubilee’s budget.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast meets on Friday morning at 6:15am at Queen City Truck Stop.
We are grateful for the assistance of Meridian Freedom Project Students who will bag groceries on Friday afternoon at 3:50.  The February Distribution date is February 28.
Friday and Saturday Jubilee women are welcome to Pine Lake Camp for a Women’s Retreat.  For more info, talk to Cheryl Landis or Fern Diener.

Saturday afternoon the Youth Group will bake goodies for a bake sale scheduled during Sunday’s Pot Luck.

SundayJoin us for Sunday School and a worship celebration at Jubilee!
Bro. Bob Metzler will be our speaker.  He is the pastor of Straight Mountain Mennonite Church and a sales/service representative for Choice Books.  He will share a message and the ministry of Choice Books.
Pot Luck will follow the service.  Bring a dish and join the fellowship.  Thanks to the youth group for cleaning after the meal and sharing baked goods – both for donations – raising funds for their trip to the Mennonite Youth Convention.  Many thanks, Jubilee, for your generous donations for our youth group!
The Jr. Youth Group is creating care packages for Jubilee college students.  Items you bring for these boxes will be collected Sunday.

Many Thanks to the grocery bag and egg carton fairies!  Your donations of these items are discovered inside and outside the building and are needed and used.

See you Sunday,

This Week at Jubilee (1/23/2017)

We are grateful to the Youth Band for leading us in worship yesterday for World Fellowship Sunday.  Have you ever considered that the coming of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 is the answer to the confusion of languages that happened at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9)?  Pastor Duane shared that connection in yesterday’s sermon and encouraged us to make sure our projects are God centered instead of focused on ourselves.

Tomorrow we will Share God’s Groceries.  Over a ton of groceries and lots of love will go through Jubilee’s doors tomorrow.  If you can volunteer, please let me know today.  Volunteers will arrive around 9:30 to be ready for the doors to open at 10:00.

Recently I asked Ms. Margaret, an amputee in a wheelchair, “Ms. Margaret, can you really use all those dry beans and cans of soup we give you.”  She beamed.  “Honey,” she said, “I’d come here every fourth Tuesday if ya’ll didn’t give me a thing!”  Ms. Margaret is our neighbor and lives a few blocks from Jubilee.

Join us at 6:00 for Bible Study on Wednesday night.  Holly Garrett is cooking breakfast for us.  (I believe this will involve grits.  🙂  Classes for all ages begin at 7:00.  Please let me know if you have questions.

The Youth Group is going bowling in Philadelphia, MS on Friday evening.  Please meet at the church at 8:15 to carpool to this youth event.  Contact Joel Diener if you have questions.

Pine Lake Camp is leading a Marriage Retreat Friday-Sunday.  Please contact Suzanne Opel at Pine Lake to register.  601-483-2267.  Scholarships are available.

Please pray for me as I prepare Sunday’s Sermon.  The working title is “Do, Love, Walk.”  Read Micah 6:1-8 to find out more.

You can safely assume I am praying for you.

God bless,
