This Weekend at Jubilee

There are many opportunities for service and worship this weekend at Jubilee. Here is a sample.

Saturday is the Pine Lake Camp Benefit Sale and Auction at Des Allemands, LA. Pine Lake is important to Jubilee for many reasons and we are grateful to support the camp at this annual event. If you:
* want to know more about the sale, contact Dara Dominici
* have items to donate, call Duane Maust
* need a ride or directions to Des Allemands, call Duane Maust
* want to help with the wildly fun (really) baking day today, let Elaine Maust know

Sunday is World Communion Sunday. In celebration, Pastor Matilde Acosta of the local Hispanic Church of God will be our preacher. We are also indebted to Claudio Aguilar who is returning to us from the New Orleans area to translate for Pastor Acosta. You may remember Claudio as a recent revival preacher at Jubilee. We all will share in the communion service as a response to the service.

Please note that in our continuing efforts to provide a safe place for worship, at 10:45 the doors to the kitchen and hall by the Sojourner’s Room (back parking lot and 9th street entrances) will be locked. If you are coming late, please use the parking lot on 28th Avenue. The doors by the office, into the sanctuary and the 9th street entrance by the food pantry will remain unlocked all morning. If you have questions about this, please talk to one of the Elder Team: James Dominici, Joel Beachy, Fern Diener, Anita Wansley, or Duane or Elaine.

Hoping that you feel God’s peace and care today.  See you on Sunday!

This Weekend at Jubilee

Happy Weekend!

We are looking forward to a great service on Sunday.  The theme will be “The Bible, Sweeter than Honey.”  You’ll find this phrase in our text, Psalm 19:7-14.  Check out what this Psalm says about God’s Word.

The Jr. Youth Group and I will have some fun with this theme. During the Sunday School time, they will write their questions about the Bible, then I will attempt to answer these questions in the course of the sermon. Let’s see what questions they have! Jr. Youth, get your questions ready! This is going to be fun.

On Sunday, the Jr. Youth Group will introduce their Christmas Giving Project. Come to hear about their hopes for helping others. Talk to Beth or Matt Graybill if you have questions.

On Sunday afternoon, Jubilee’s Youth Group will meet for Sunday lunch. Check with Joel Beachy for more info.

Several of Jubilee’s Care Groups will be meeting on Sunday evening. If you would like to be in a care group or if you are interested in leading a group, please talk with Duane or Elaine.

Join us on Sunday to worship God and to receive encouragement!

This Weekend at Jubilee

In our continued series on Hospitality, Joel Beachy will preach from Hebrews 13:1-3,

“Let mutual love continue.  Do not neglect to show hospitality…”
(Hebrews 13:1-2a NRSV)
Joel will focus on practicing “hospitality makes perfect”.   Did you ever imagine that being a guest also requires hospitality? Joel will lead us to consider showing hospitality as both host and guest.

Thanks to all of you who offered to be guests and hosts for our first Guest/Host Event. Beginning Sunday, many of you will open your homes to others from Jubilee for visiting and food. And many of you will receive hospitality you have not enjoyed before. We applaud your creativity and hope you have delightful times together. If you would still like to be a guest or a host, please contact Joel Beachy.

This Sunday, Duane and several others from Jubilee will attend the ordination of Ruskin Clay, pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Macon, MS. If you would like to join them for this important event in Gulf States Conference, please contact Duane.

See you on Sunday!

This weekend at Jubilee

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Jubilee’s Youth and sponsors will be at Gulf States Conference Youth Rally at Pine Lake. For more info, contact Joel Beachy.

On Saturday, the MS/LA Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) will meet at Jubilee at 10:00 in the Sojourners’ Room. Everyone is invited to attend for information about the projects of this important ministry. If you have questions, contact Chris Wansley.

Sunday’s Sermon will be the first in a two part series on Hospitality. Did you ever think of God as a host? Though it’s a little hard to picture God grilling burgers, making sweet tea or wearing an apron, the Bible is brimming with illustrations of God hosting.Check out Psalm 23:5 for one example. Or what about God being a guest? Take a look at Genesis 18:1-8.

Sharon Dufour is preparing a story for the children about a time Jesus hosted. Read John 21:1-14 for a story of Jesus grilling fish for his friends.

Following the sermon, anyone is invited to come forward for Healing Prayer and anointing. Bring any concern or need you have – for yourself or someone for whom you care. God invites you. The Holy Spirit will be present to heal.

Following the service, Jubilee will enjoy our third Sunday Pot Luck. Don’t miss the good food or the fellowship. Bring food to share. For more information contact Rachel Seibel.

During the Pot Luck, Dara Dominici will present crafts that will be sold to raise money for Pine Lake Camp at the annual Camp Sale in Des Allemands, LA. This Camp Sale Preview will allow you to buy or view items for sale.

See you on Sunday! Join me in praying that God’s Spirit will bless and empower us as we gather this week!

Revival begins tomorrow night!

Tomorrow evening, Jubilee’s revival will begin. We’ve looked forward to this weekend for many months. Join us in praying that the Holy Spirit will break through to us in all the ways God hopes.

Preacher: Claudio Aguilar
Claudio is a young man devoted to God and the church. He’s a member of Amor Viviente (Living Love) in Metairie, LA, a member of Gulf States Mennonite Conference. Claudio is in training as a minister in his home congregation. His passion for God comes through in his life and in his preaching.

Time: 7:00pm – Friday and Saturday
Claudio will also preach on Sunday Morning

Music: Chris and Brittany Wansley will lead us in musical worship

Offering: There will be a love offering for Claudio on Saturday evening.

Meals: The only meal served at Jubilee this weekend will be the pot luck on Sunday after the service.

Child Care: Activities and child care will be provided for children 4th grade and younger, though if children or their parents would rather the children be in the services, they are welcome. Children may go directly to their activities when they arrive on Friday and Saturday evenings. Anita Wansley is coordinating these activities.

30 Hour Famine: It is significant that during the revival, our youth and Jr. youth and their leaders will be fasting for 30 hours. Pray for them that this combined time of fasting in identification with the hungry of the world and revival will be particularly moving for them.

Invite your friends: If each of us invites one person to the revival, imagine how many people will be blessed, challenged and encouraged!

Victory for Jubilee’s Youth!

After a long, epic battle, involving more than a few ‘questionable’ calls by the Ref, the Jubilee Youth made a comeback to win this year’s soccer match by a score of 4-3. No major injuries were reported, though there may be a few ‘grown-ups’ limping around. -Chris Bowers
